Salzburg Academy for Dance Arts (SADA) invites emerging choreographers to join Phoenix 2026 Summer Dance Intensive, collaborating with dancers within a company-style training and rehearsal framework and connecting their work to a final formal stage performance platform.

Where: Salzburg, Austria

When: 13 July – 1 August 2026

Deadline for applications: 17 May 2026

Phoenix 2026, organised by Salzburg Academy for Dance Arts (SADA) in Salzburg, Austria, is a company-style training and performance programme rather than a short-term workshop. It combines daily technical training, rehearsal processes, choreographic practice, stage preparation, and artistic reflection.

As part of the programme, SADA may invite up to two emerging choreographers to develop short choreographic works or movement material with participating dancers in a structured, high-intensity rehearsal environment. This open call is particularly suited to artists working in theatrical dance whose practice shows clarity of movement composition, sensitivity to stage space and performance energy, collaborative working methods, and an interest in rehearsal-based, performance-oriented creation. We particularly welcome artists who are developing their choreographic voice in a context where education and pre-professional artistic work intersect.

The main creation period is expected to take place during the latter part of the programme. SADA’s preferred availability is 20 July – 1 August 2026, with selected choreographers ideally present for the final performance dates. Exact working periods will be discussed with selected applicants.

The final presentation platform is the SADA Dance Gala ‘Spotlight 2026’, presented under full theatrical conditions at Odeïon Salzburg on Friday, 31 July and Saturday, 1 August 2026. This performance platform is a core part of Phoenix 2026, and selected works may be included in the final public performances, depending on rehearsal progress, programme planning, faculty evaluation, and practical feasibility.

Applicants should propose a short theatrical piece of approximately 10 minutes. Proposals may be either new creations or adaptations of existing work, provided they suit the dancers, rehearsal conditions, and performance context of Phoenix 2026.

The working language of the programme is primarily English.
