What happens when darkness, scent and botanical memory become choreographic materials?
Interdisciplinary artist and choreographer Elena Bajo invites dancers, movement practitioners and other interested participants to join a collaborative eco-movement research laboratory in Paris.
The laboratory forms part of Artemisia Noctis: A Grammar of Darkness (Arianrhod’s Threshold), developed for Sans Réserve at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature.
Working through Bajo’s Anarchoreographic Method, participants will explore choreographic structures that question hierarchy and cultivate attention to nonhuman agencies, plant intelligence and ancestral botanical memory.
Repetition, weight, breath, scent, voice, darkness and collective transmission will become starting points for research. Together, participants will investigate how ecological and sensory relationships can be embodied and transformed into precise movement.
Applicants should be comfortable using the body as a means of research, thought and composition, and able to generate, develop and memorise movement material within a collaborative process.
The process comprises four two-hour laboratory sessions, followed by a dress rehearsal and a public performance on 4 December 2026 at dusk. Availability for the complete process, including the dress rehearsal and performance, is required.
Participation is free, and a stipend is provided for the work, rehearsals and performance time.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a brief individual introductory conversation via Zoom.
Elena Bajo is the recipient of the Prix Spécial Hors Compétition – Fondation Carmignac.
