OTROS (Other Training Reconforming Other Systems) is the new Portuguese platform dedicated to dance.
It arises in Lisbon from the need to encourage contemporary dance research and support new generations of dancers.
In an accelerated world, which suffers the inability to create a bridge between the art of movement’s heritage and today’s socio-cultural development, OTROS intends to assume a preserving role of dance technique from the ephemeral and volatile tendency that characterises our era, disseminating the remarkable and qualitative practices that have emerged in the last decades and offering a solid and thorough training path in an accessible format to the community.
About the workshop
DYNAMIC MOVEMENT SYSTEMS is a work with an emphasis on weight, falling, redirecting energy, accentuating sensations of unfamiliar co-ordinations and torsions. Rhythm and accents awaken the neuromuscular abilities of the body towards virtuosity, precision and articulation that challenge the dancer’s habitual movement patterns. The exercises or etudes encourage an emphasis on universal laws of motion and reveal motion itself rather than shape and gestures.
The gradual training from floor to standing to travelling and jumping constitute a thorough work out that by the end of the class leave a taste of ‘everything is possible’ in a vibrant body. More importantly, the class is building a practice in motion with useful technical tips for long and healthy dancing, encouraging the dancer to get to know their body and expand its fitness level as well as its creative capacity.
David remained in Europe basing himself in Brussels since 1993, where he continued creating his own work for over twenty years. Next to his own projects he continued performing and collaborating with many other artists such as LaborGras Brice Leroux, Anouk Van Dijk, Michel Debrulle, Meg Stuart, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Christine De Smedt.
