Deadline for applications: Application deadlines depend on the intake. Applications are reviewed individually. Please contact NIPAI for upcoming start dates and availability.
Description of opportunity:
NIPAI’s Choreography and Blocking in Performance is designed for theatre directors, choreographers, movement directors, assistant directors, stage managers, and performing arts educators who want to develop a structured approach to stage composition, movement, and mise-en-scène.
The curriculum explores blocking, physical action, spatial relationships, group dynamics, gestures, and visual storytelling. Students work with a play of their choice, developing groundplans, stage compositions, movement sequences, and practical staging solutions. Weekly assignments are accompanied by individual written feedback from a tutor.
By the end of the programme, participants develop a staging package for a selected scene, including an annotated groundplan, blocking notation, a movement score, and supporting composition studies. These materials can be used in rehearsal preparation and collaboration with performers. Successful participants receive a NIPAI Certificate of Completion.
The programme is delivered entirely through distance learning in English, with approximately 4–8 hours of study per week. No access to a theatre or full cast is required.
Applicants must hold at least a high school diploma and have prior experience in the performing arts.
