The Urge of Being is a creative expedition on a sailing boat.
It is a sea-voyage open to performing artists and artists of all genres, creatives, sea-souls, researchers.

The expedition includes 10 days of sailing in the North Aegean Sea on the sailing boat LAFRI; this immersive experience offers a creative laboratory for performing artists, interdisciplinary creators, sea-souls, and researchers.

It is a special project. It’s not just a workshop, it’s not just a sailing journey, it’s not a residency …
It’s the orchestration of these things that will create something unexpected

What happens when we bring artistic processes out of the 4 walls of the studio?
This is the deep meaning of ecology: it’s about interaction. It’s ab
out feeling that identity is connected and dependent to the environment.

We sleep every night in breathtaking bays, under the stars!

Every day we go for our research and training sessions in different and breathtaking sites!
We might go on the beach, we might train in the water, we might go hiking and create along the way.
According to the weather and locations, we might go in a cave, or in a temple, we might swim to reach the site of our research or go by our little inflatable boat or with the S.U.P. Have you even tried singing on the S.U.P? Or swim to get to a shipwreck and listen to his old whispers?

Daniela Marcozzi is the artistic facilitator of the expedition and Nikolas Piperas is the Captain of the boat and artist. Daniela has been developing performance tools and scientific approaches to explore the connection performance/ecology. With a vivid knowledge and sensitivity to the naturalistic and spiritual aspects of Greece, Nikolas will guide us and take care of the expedition.

We deeply believe in this project and in the urge of the encounter between human beings and the sea, attempting to give form to what we can’t explain, but it’s there, louder than what we can actually verbalize.

How to apply / register:
Each participant has a single cabin with personal toilet with shower and water.
There is the possibility to share the cabin with another person with a reduced price.
Please contact us if you are interested. Note that the cabin has one double-bed.

The costs includes: daily creative workshop in different locations and on the boat, boat expenses, fuel, port fees, accommodation, navigation.

The costs doesn’t include: food, drinks, cleaning, cooking, helping the skipper with sailing the boat.

The food for the whole expedition will be bought on the first day. The food expenses will be divided among the participants and  will cover the meals for the participants and for the skipper Nikolas and facilitator Daniela.
