Muğla Butoh is a 3-month, affordable multi-guide laboratory in a rural village—40 km southeast of Fethiye—bringing together 10 Butoh guides for rigorous, immersive practice, with options to attend for one week, one month, or all 3 months. 3 meals per day covered.

Educators

Joan Laage (USA)
Seattle-based Butoh pioneer (Kogut Butoh) who studied under Kazuo Ohno and Yoko Ashikawa. Performed with Ashikawa’s Gnome troupe and remains a leading U.S. educator.

Ken Mai (JP/FI)
Japanese-born Butoh dancer based in Helsinki, trained with Kazuo Ohno. Integrates Butoh with martial arts, yoga, Zen, and modern dance internationally.

Lyze Damour (FR)
Paris-based Butoh artist and founder of Collective BIG!, creating inclusive, site-responsive performances informed by art therapy.

Rita Soma (ES)
Nomadic performer and Butoh practitioner since 2016. Explores shadow and light, giving movement to unseen realities and dreams.

Alessia Mallardo (IT)
Butoh dancer and dance therapist investigating body memory, emotional expression, and sensory awareness through movement research.

Paul Michael Henry (SC/IE)
Irish dancer, musician, and performance artist blending Butoh, punk, and ritual. Founder of UNFIX and PhD researcher exploring identity and ecology.

Tebby Ramasike (NL/SA)
South African choreographer and founder of TeBogO Dance Ensemble, creator of Afro-Butoh. Studied with Yoshito Ohno and Carlotta Ikeda.

Cinthia Patiño (MX)
Actress, dancer, and stage creator with 28 years of experience. Director of CRISOL Arte del Cuerpo Escénico and longtime student of Yoshito Ohno, Natsu Nakajima, and Diego Piñón.

Sara Zalek (USA)
Transdisciplinary artist, producer, and curator whose work explores trauma, resilience, and transformation through performance and immersive Butoh workshops. Draws on two decades of study with Yumiko Yoshioka, Diego Piñón, and Tadashi Endo.

Facilitator & Guide: Adam Koan (USA)
Founder of Shadowbody and the Butoh Directory. Guiding internationally since 2016. Studied under 45 Butoh educators, most extensively Rhizome Lee and Julie Becton Gillum.
