Year of Making 2023 residency is ideal for artists/companies/collectives working within and across all performance disciplines including dance, performance, theatre, circus, music, writing and poetry, who are committed to pushing the boundaries of their own process and practice within a mutually supportive context.

Where: Online & Space Clarence Mews, London, UK

When: January 2023 – January 2024

Deadline for applications: Monday 21 November 2022. Applications processed on an ongoing basis.

Each artist/company (6 maximum per Year of Making Group) work from January 2023 to January 2024 and receives:

• 10 artists meetings facilitated by Caroline Salem; you will choose to be part of a virtual or in-person group. Dates tbc with each group.
• 9 individual mentoring sessions with Caroline Salem
• Optional use of space, 120 or 60 hours over the year
• Work-in-progress events in June / July 2023
• Final Day sharing (in person and/ or streamed) in Dec 2023 / Jan 2024.

Both emerging and established artists/companies are welcome to apply. It is not necessary for applicants to have a single, well defined project or focus: in each year, there is always a mix of open researchers and production focused making. Artists have the choice to be part of an in-person group or an online group of artists.

Looking forward to welcoming both local, national and international artists to Year of Making 2023.

Payments can be arranged over a 12-month or 18-month period. Don’t let this contribution put you off – there are various options that may help: work exchange either in administration or movement/performance research and one 50% bursary for an applicant who is either under 25 years or over 65 years.

Deadline to apply: Monday 21 November 2022. Applications are processed on an ongoing basis – invitations to talk more with Caroline Salem will be made once your application has been received, so get in touch asap.
