A week long workshop mixing morning training with afternoons full of improvisation, a work session in which you can learn new techniques and apply them immediately.
I am looking for performers and dancers who wish to develop their skills and spend a week exploring their own physicality in relation to a group.
Where: Au Brana Cultural Centre in the South of France

When: 3 – 7th June

We will begin with a softer warm-up, before breakfast, to arrive in our bodies each morning, to shake the sleep out and increase the energy.
The morning sessions will be dedicated to technical and physical training; a mix of flying low and other floor work, training and games to improve strength, flexibility and awareness. I will also propose choreographic material in the mornings with a focus on increasing speed and precision.
I want to explore listening through the physical work, listening to the group and to oneself within a group, and how energy can be re-cycled and shared. Run with your heart rather than with your feet (they will follow).

In the afternoons (sometimes evenings) we will improvise, in many different structures. Sometimes alone, sometimes as a group, sometimes both, sometimes short, sometimes long.
I’d like to propose a pallet of ways of improvising that I’ve learnt over the years from different practitioners (e.g Martin Sonderkamp, David Zambrano, Tono Lachky, Milan Herich) and which I find helpful, fun and challenging.
I’d like us to move together, creating a space where we practice, explore and ’fail’, without judging ourselves or others. I’d like for us to let ourselves inspire and be inspired, to see each other and to let ourselves be seen.

Fabian Wixe bio:
Originally from Sweden Fabian trained as a circus performer in London at the Circus Space (2004-2006), then moved on to continue his studies at Le Lido – Centre des Arts du Cirque in Toulouse (2006-2008), specializing in Chinese Pole.
After completing his studies he joined French circus company ’Collectif AOC’, and worked with them from 2009-2015 in several productions (’Autochtone’, ’Un Dernier Pour la Route’, ’les Vadrouilles’.)

2011-2014 he ran ’i19 project’ together with dancer Marie Wårell, and toured their performance ’layers’ internationally (performing and teaching), a research aiming to give as much importance to the dance as to the circus within.
2014 he joined the ’Antipodes’ project, an international collaboration project between dance and circus, working in France, Chile, Madagascar and Guadeloupe.
He continues to study with different teachers, e.g 2016 he participated in Integro Dance Beyond, a month’s intensive with David Zambrano studying Flying Low and Passing Through.

As well as performing, Fabian teaches and gives workshops. Nowadays mainly dance with a strong focus on floorwork and Flying Low, and also chinese pole with focus on personal and technichal research as well as alongside OBRA Theatre in their practices. Places he has taught include Turku Circus School (Finland), the Circus Space (England), Le Lido – Centre des Arts du Cirque (France), Cronopis through la Central de Cirk (Spain), Hammerfest for Stellaris DansTeater (Norway), Scenskolan Luleå (Sweden), Festival Vertical’Été, Mont-Dauphin, (France), Panama City (Panama), Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain), Santiago (Chile), Au Brana Cultural Centre (France).

At Au Brana Cultural Centre in the South of France, a barn converted into beautiful studios and dormitory in the countryside. The woods are close for walks and the place great for relaxing when not working, and the town of Lectoure isn’t far away. There’s a kitchen attached to the space, and we will cook and eat together there.
