Forming a Spiral
‘Spiral’, ‘spirit’ and ‘inspiration’ are rooted in the Latin word ‘
During the two days intensive workshop we will invest in subtle inspirations for moving, sounding and tracing, through an interplay between dance, vocal engagement, rituals and visual arts. We will seek to understand how performativity benefits from attunement to the energies and information already present in space and channelled through our bodies, senses and awareness. We will play with somatic approaches that teach how to listen, how to be sensitive towards the other and let ourselves be moved by her/him/they/it. We will be able to question habits and preconceptions around improvisation and composition, encouraging us to search for new areas of personal and communal exploration. We may benefit from an expansion of intuitive body movement and voice work by concentrating on emergent and imminent expression. Ecstatic states will be invoked both personally and collectively through intensive breath-work, mourning and death rituals, Sufi spinning and other actions from Irina’s explorations. As such, the workshop resonates with questions of society and culture by expanding the practice from the individual body to the collective body, or body politic. And, the work will take place both indoors in a studio and outdoors in the forest, allowing us to notice how different landscapes influence the way we move, the way we vocalize and the way we trace our being in the world.
This workshop is suited for dancers, actors, visual artists, multidisciplinary artists, and anyone who is inspired to rediscover and manifest subtle forms and energy through creative approaches.
