Cited as “A Think Tank for Dance Teachers” by Lisa Traiger in Dance Teacher Magazine, DETI’s sessions include a broad range of workshops that focus on 21st century skills needed for students to thrive in today’s ever changing world:
-Technique Classes in a variety of dance styles, including Modern, Afrobeat, and Contemporary Jazz;
-Virtual Teaching Approaches including Modeling a Virtual Class Offering, Building Community via -Virtual Performances, and Managing Your Virtual Classroom;
-Building Racial Equity with Race Forward;
-Somatic Studies, including Functional Awareness®;
-Creativity, Collaboration and Composition Workshops through the lens of Interdisciplinary/Multidisciplinary Approaches, Arts Integration: Whitman Sisters Legacy, Composition with Shapes in 10, and Effort Actions.
From those in Higher Education and K-12 to local studio teachers, across multiple disciplines and levels of expertise, we welcome a broad range of participants to join us. The DETI is designed to help participants delve deeper into their artistic pursuits and enhance their pedagogical techniques in a challenging, yet supportive environment. All sessions are open to the public, with a particular interest to serve choreographers, performers, highly experienced dance educators as well as teaching artists who are just beginning to work in the field. Organizational leaders, administrators, and participants from various arts and educational disciplines are also encouraged to attend.
According to our most recent poll, 100% of participants affirmed that they gained new knowledge from the DETI, which helped them to approach class planning more effectively. Learn and share new ideas for moving your hybrid or virtual dance classroom into the post-Covid school year. Continuing Professional Development Course (CPD) Credit from the MD State Department of Education is also available through the DETI.
