The festival, the first of its kind to reside in Greensboro, North Carolina, is in its seventh year and features dance films from around the world in both student and professional categories. This year the festival is particularly interested in films that address themes that explore notions of race, place and identity created through the prism of film. We are also interested in artists of color who work both in front and behind the the camera as this year’s festival will culminate with a celebration during Black History Month. Secondary themes are also short form films made in quarantine during COVID-19 that address issues of isolation and/or reflect some aspect of the impact of COVID-19 on individuals and communities. These films should be under 3 minutes and will be presented in an independent program whose location will be determined. GDFF continues to work with and build upon strong relationships with community stakeholders and this year we endeavor to expand those relationships even in our current global climate. The pandemic has forced us to evolve and reevaluate the mission and priorities of the festival and we do this with artists and community in mind.

Artists in all disciplines of screen dance are encouraged to apply. This year the festival will be presented in multiple venues over the course of two weeks and which include a live opening performance and party and a collaboration with the Greensboro Performance Space honoring all measures of social distancing still in effect. All events presented against the backdrop of historic downtown Greensboro and the newly renovated UNCG Dance campus.
