STREAM Zadar is a platform for educational activities which is this year taking place from 06 to 19 August in the Zadar Dance Ensemble rehearsal space.STREAM was conceived as a series of professional contemporary dance and performative arts workshops, with a primary focus on developing the dance practice through studious work and conscious work on the body. The aim of the workshops is to introduce the participants to tools and techniques through specific research processes in order to upgrade their dance, choreographic and performance skills.

Where: Zadar, Croatia

When: 4 workshops between 6th and 19th of August 2018

Deadline for applications: 20th of July 2018

This year we have prepared an even richer programme in order to ensure the practice of the highest standards. The season will be opened, as is tradition, by Hanna Hegenscheidt, a certified Klein TechniqueTMteacher.

Klein Technique a somatic technique developed to assist in healthy movement and injury prevention. Emphasis is placed on moving from our deepest structural and energetic tissue – the bone, and the focus of the practice is on movement analysis and refining, as well as on understanding body mechanics by activating the deepest muscle layer.

The workshop is primarily intended for dancers, actors, sportsmen and physiotherapists, but it is also for all those wishing to further their knowledge of body functionality.

The second workshop, on the programme for the first time, is a Tai Chi workshop led by Nenad Vertovšek. Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese art of preserving health and vitality, reaching synergy and psychological and physical balance and mastering a timely and most appropriate reaction to any kind of change of circumstances, situations and space.

Nenad Vertovšek developed a training based on body and mind relaxation, where the strength of the body is derived from a focused mind, and which is intended for professionals and amateurs of all ages.

A contact improvisation workshop will be held by Iva Hladnik and Andrzej Woźniak.

During the workshop we will explore how touch, which has one of the key roles in contact improvisation, can inspire individual movements, generating versatile dialogues between movers. We will use it as a reference point when sharing weight, and through a technique we are going to explore the interplay with gravity when rolling, stopping, falling and flying.

The educational part of the Zadar dance summer will be closed by Sanna Myllylahti and her workshop I Will Tell You When I Am Ready. At the workshop, we will work on choreographic questions which arose during Sanna’s recent solo work and which are closely related to the ability to transform the space and the state of being, both physically and metaphorically.

The workshops will be followed by the part of the series dedicated to performances: Monoplay – a festival dedicated to solos, which is this year celebrating its 10th anniversary. The festival will take place from 20 to 24 August.
