Klein Technique™
During the workshops the emphasis will be on the idea of moving from our deepest structural and energetic tissue, the bone. Through an interweaving of theory and practice we will work on the muscles of deep postural support: the psoas, the hamstrings, the pelvic floor muscles, and the external rotators. We will work with a body-felt understanding of how these muscles bring the bones into alignment, a place of connectedness, which leads to the power and efficiency of the movement.
Klein Technique™ is a movement education which can be an underpinning for all movement styles, improvisations, athletics, and for the general health of the body in everyday movement. Susan Klein has been developing it in New York since 1972 and it has significantly influenced contemporary dance in New York and throughout Europe.

Hanna Hegenscheidt has lived and worked in Berlin as a choreographer, teacher and performer since 2005. She is a certified Laban Movement Analyst (CMA) and a certified teacher of Klein Technique™. She studied with Susan Klein and Barbara Mahler in New York for many years.
Since 1998 she has been teaching movement education and dance in New York and Germany (Susan Klein School of Dance and Movement Studies, Trisha Brown Studio, Sasha Waltz & Guests, Meg Stuart, HZT Berlin, Studio LaborGras, Tanzfabrik, among others)

Ballet for contemporary dancers
The ballet class allows the participant to experience their body starting from the skeletal structure with the focus on strengthening the awareness of their own natural alignment into Ballet Vocabulary.
The class is divided into two parts: the barre and the centre work.
Exercises at the barre emphasise isolating and releasing the joints in order to strengthen the dancer’s core awareness and to find were the movement initiates in the body to support functional alignment .
The centre work challenges the dancer to use the new found alignment when shifting weight and carrying the body through space when executing vocabulary . Motivation, flow of movement, and momentum are key points to help the dancer to move from the core and inner muscles to support a greater freedom of dynamic and expression.

Libby Farr began her training in Texas and then continued her education at Ballet West in Colorado and School of American Ballet in New York. She performed in several Companies including San Diego Ballet,Los Angeles Ballet,Dallas Ballet, in America then Zurich Ballet and Deutsche Oper Berlin. She has been a regular guest teacher in P.A.R.T.S in Belgium and SEAD in Austria since 2000 and taught companies throughout Europe such as Rosas , Pina Bausch , Cullberg Ballet ,Ballet Preljocaj and others . She is also a certified Gyrokinesis teacher.

Call and Response

Using the attitudes of West African dance traditions, contemporary dance principles and functional practice the workshop encourages dancers to build on their dance expression and deepen their sensitivity in dance interpretation. Through exercises and dance sequences, it focuses on strengthening and stretching the body and raising awareness of movement.
The workshop focuses on body awareness and responsiveness, precision and direction of movement and musicality.
The first part is structured as a dance class and includes exercises that guide participants to find depth and greater amplitude in movement, to become aware of the power from the centre of the body, to connect breath with movement and find fluidity of movement through the body. In the second part of the workshop the focus will be on developing individual dance expression and relationship with fellow dancers through guided improvisation and the relationship and communication between movement and rhythm: breath as a rhythmic component, rhythm as a starting point for research, ways of creating movement phrases in response to rhythmic patterns

Maša Kagao Knez works as a dancer, choreographer and theatre practitioner. In 2006 she completed professional training at Georges Momboye School of Traditional and Contemporary African dance in Paris.
