Gaga is the movement language developed by Ohad Naharin throughout many years, parallel to his work as a world-renowned choreographer. Gaga classes are predicated on a deep activation of the body and physical sensations. We provide a framework for discovering and strengthening the body and adding flexibility, stamina, agility, and skills including coordination and efficiency while stimulating the senses and the imagination. Participants awaken numb areas, increase their awareness of habits, and improve their efficiency of movement inside multilayered tasks.

The Gaga/dancers class is aimed at professional dancers or advanced dance students ages 16+. It deepens dancers’ awareness of physical sensations, expands their palette of available movement options, enhances their ability to modulate their energy and engage their explosive power, and enriches their movement quality with a wide range of textures. The layering of familiar skills with Gaga tasks presents dancers with fresh challenges, and throughout the class, teachers prompt the dancers to visit more unfamiliar places and ways of moving as well, unlocking the endlessness of possibilities. Dancers are guided to connect their effort to pleasure and to discover the virtue of silliness.

Smadar is a choreographer, dancer, a certified Gaga teacher, Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis trainer. She completed her B.A. in dance and M.A. in choreography at the Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance. Since 2011, her pieces are performed on various platforms worldwide. In the yearbook of magazine tanz 2023, Smadar was honoured as one of the 10 promising dance pioneers in Germany. She is currently the representative choreographer of Theater Freiburg’s dance department as part of the Réseau GRAND LUXE network. From 2024 – 2026, she has been supported by the state capital Stuttgart and the Landesverband Freie Tanz-und Theaterschaffende Baden-Wuerttemberg.
