Our Berlin program SHARE Workshop is coming to you in Paris.
During this two-day, you will have the great opportunity to work on the methods and repertoire of Akram Khan Company with former dancer Nico Ricchini. And in August you will have the great opportunity to work with Joy Alpuerto Ritter.

About this Workshop

This workshop is exclusively for SHARE The Dance Intensive. Dancers submitting their application need to have a strong dance technique and physicality and/or any other background that supports their participation in this workshop.

About Nico Ricchini (March 11th & 12th 2023 Paris Workshop)

Nico trained in Ballet in Lyon and in Contemporary Dance in Barcelona in Varium. Over the past ten years, he has worked with artists and companies such as Pepe Hevia Danza (Cuba), Fernando Madagan (Nederlands Dans Theater), Tupac Martir in London, Emma Martin Dance, Akram Khan Company for the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games, La Taimada, CLOD Ensemble, and Lali Ayguadé Company among others. His performance of the solo “Chotto Desh” for Akram Khan Company on a three-year international tour was a highlight of his career: a work translated into 6 languages, hosted in 85 cities, and seen by more than 110,000 spectators. He has also been an actor, together with Lali Ayguadé, in the multi-award winning and Oscar nominee short film “Timecode” by Juanjo Giménez. A dance entrepreneur, Nico has initiated innovative projects in Barcelona for the education of contemporary dance such as the FREE BODIES (since 2018) and FREE ROOTS (since 2022) programs that he co-directs together with Nadine Gerspacher. Since 2018, he directs Big Story Productions which produces and sells contemporary dance production and projects as well as represents bold and audacious artists. In 2020, started working again with Akram Khan Company as a rehearsal director and performer for the piece “Chotto Xenos”. Since 2022, he’s founded the creative venue FREEZONE to support creation, movement, and performance in Barcelona.

About Joy Alpuerto Ritter (August 1st, 2nd & 3rd 2023 / Berlin Workshop)

Joy Alpuerto Ritter was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. In her youth, she was trained at the Ballettschule Armin Krain and learned Philippine Folk Dance in the cultural dance group led by her mother. In 2004 Joy graduated at the Palucca School (Dresden, Germany) with a dance diploma. She started working as a freelance dancer with choreographers like Christoph Winkler, Heike Hennig Wangramirez, Constanza Macras and Yui Kawaguchi. After expanding her repertory in urban dance styles, she became part of the Hip Hop and Voguing Ballroom culture scene in Berlin and has won prizes in several Dance Battles like Voguing out Berlin, Defipayette, Oval Battle and Funkin stylz. In 2011 she joined Cirque du Soleil as a dancer and aerial artist for the Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour. Since 2013 she has been a dancer and rehearsal director of the Akram Khan Company where she continues her touring life all around the world. She was nominated as “Outstanding Female Dancer (contemporary)” at the UK National Dance Awards in 2017 for her performance in Until the Lions. Since then, Joy has been creating her own work with Unda (premiered at the Barbican London), Alter Egos (Sophiensaele Berlin and Heimkehr (coproduction LOFFT das Theater). Her solo work Babae found a wide international response, and she was one of the Aerowaves artists 2020. As a choreographer, she established new collaborations with Akram Khan (UK), Ballet Black (UK), Chen Shi-Zheng (New York), Riz Ahmed (UK), Viviana Durante (UK), Floria Sigismondi (USA/CA), Florence and the machine (UK) and Garin Nugroho (Indonesia). As a teacher, Joy has been giving workshops all around the world such as at IDW – International Dance Week Budapest, Marameo Berlin, Orsolina28, Ugnayan (Online), Towards Vivencia (Online) and has created commissioned works at SEAD – Salzburg Experimental Dance Academy, DAF- Dance Arts Faculty in Rome and Beijing Dance Academy in China.

Application Requirements

All Applicants must be professional or pre-professional dancers, movers, or performers, with a minimum age of 16 years old.
You must provide a maximum of 1-minute video link (Vimeo or Youtube) of your dancing either improvising or choreographed solo. No group piece. No Instagram or Facebook link.

Within 3 days of receiving your application form, we will send our response via email. A 7 days period to pay your tuition is required once our email was sent. Every un-paid application is canceled on the 8th day at 9 am.
