If you are a movement- or sound artist and ever wanted to work with interactive systems, sensors and spatial sound, this workshop is right for you!

This workshop//Performance project is based on the SENSING VOLUMES installation that is designed to translate body movement in a space- captured by a camera- into sound.

With Felicitas Thomas (Dancer and Founder) @movement_unlimited_berlin
Felipe Vareschi (Sound Artist) @frmvar
Eva Georgitsopoulou (Dancer+Choreographer) @eva_georgitsopoulou

Where: Uferstudios Berlin, Germany, Studio 1

When: 20.10.2023-22.10.2023

This workshop is based on the SENSING VOLUMES installation that is designed to translate body movement in a space- captured by a camera- into sound.

In the workshop the SENSING VOLUMES installation will be re-created and the workshop curriculum focuses on deepening the sense of hearing, orientation, dance improvisation, movement and multi-sensorial intuition of the attendees. Using these tools as a base to go into composition with a collaborative group within the workshop.

Dancers and movers will get a highly physical training with Eva Georgitsopoulou.
Evas methodic “Inside Extremity” is focused on directed technical improvisation and leads the participants into an ongoing balance between impulsive movement and self-direction and control through continuous movement and speed. Any set material is inspired and related to the Improvisation tools.

Sound artists will deepen their performance and installation skills both theoretically and practically. This workshop is built on collaborations and sound artists will have the opportunity to collaborate both with each other and a wide variety of movement practitioners. Instrumentalists, technologists, composers and performers of all backgrounds are welcome.

SENSING VOLUMES has been developed to explore senses beyond sight based on Felicitas Thomas research in moving blindfolded and her work with blind people and people with visual impairment. We will explore moving blindfolded and connect deep listening and improvisational tools as well as going through technical basics inspired by Kung Fu, that will explore clearness in space and how to move alone and in a group without the sense of sight.

The aim of the workshop will be the development of short pieces individually composed by each group that will be performed to an audience to offer a performative practice space. You will receive a recording of your performance that we offer for private use.
The installation will be re-created and the workshop curriculum focuses on deepening the sense of hearing, orientation, dance improvisation, movement and multi-sensorial intuition of the attendees. Using these tools as a base to go into composition.
