For the last time this season, the popular Screendance Workshop Online by Theater Freiburg will take place!

The two-day workshop is aimed at dancers, choreographers, filmmakers and generally interested people who want to experiment with this special medium. After a short theoretical input on the history and practice of screendance, participants will be invited to create their own short choreographies for the camera through guided exercises. All that is needed is some kind of camera. The workshop takes place via Zoom and participation is free.

The dance department of the Theater Freiburg offers regular screendance workshops in close cooperation with the two screendance experts Marisa Hayes and Franck Boulègue. The courses are offered in alternating rhythms at two levels for beginners and for participants with previous knowledge. In the introductory workshop, after a short theoretical input about the history and practice of screendance, participants are invited to create their own short choreographies for the camera through guided exercises. All that is needed to participate is a working smartphone or web camera, and the workshop is free. Building on this introduction, participants can sign up for the “Going further” course to deepen their Screendance knowledge and practice.

The two workshop leaders Marisa Hayes and Franck Boulègue are renowned experts in the field of the interdisciplinary art form of screendance. Together they founded the Festival International de Vidéo Danse de Bourgogne (France), an annual international screendance platform that celebrated its thirteenth edition in 2021. Together with Adriana Almeida Pees, they curated the INTERNATIONAL SCREENDANCE FESTIVAL FREIBURG in 2019 and 2021. Their research and writing on screendance is regularly published and presented in research journals (including The International Journal of Screendance, Society of Dance History Scholars) and at international conferences.

11.00 – 15.00: Free time to work on exercises and lunch breack
15.00 – 16.00: Zoom meeting for discussion and explanation of the next exercises; sharing of the results
