Where: Ravnedans, Kristiansand – Norway
When: 8th – 13th of July, 1200 – 1700
Deadline for applications: July 1st
Together with the performance maker Irina Lavrinovic, we are very excited to invite both art lovers and artists to join us for the creation of a ritual of regeneration. The ritual will be prepared for by the group of participants over a period of six days before it will be arranged/performed within the context of Ravnedans Festival, 2018. We will invite the audience to join us in the basement space of Teateret for our ritual after which the ending party of the festival will follow.
The ritual will invoke the part that women played in ancient times as spiritual generators within their own communities. The group of participants will share in the creation process which will start with the use of language as a generator of magic. Women’s names will become source material that is said, chanted and/or danced, giving a spiralling energy to an event that sheds new light on issues of togetherness and on the place of women in personal and communal history.
How does sharing the same name strike a significant relation between two individuals and how does it reflect culture and history at this point in time? We shall use the transformative powers of language, of name spiralling, to expand the performative space/time and allow for surprising meanings to emerge.
The audience of Ravnedans is invited to join Irina and a group of local professional and non-professional performers, for a ritual of regeneration. The ritual invokes the part that women performed in ancient times as spiritual generators within their own communities. First names become source material that is said, chanted and danced, giving a spiralling energy to an event that sheds new light on issues of togetherness and on the place of women in personal and communal history.
