Where:The Quadrangle Trust, The Granary, Shoreham Road, Shoreham, Kent TN14 7RP UK
When: 4th to 7th of June
The core of this workshop trains dancers in relational skills: with the earth, the physics of motion, and with our selves and one another in the spaces of being. We focus on practices that support inter and intra personal communication and creative communion while developing our movement skills.Communication skills are never separate from those that allow us to move with ease, have trust in our abilities, and gain the freedom to be co-creative. While we anchor our work in functional skills, we will learn the difference between reflexive, reactive, responsive, and communitive (from “communion”) relations so that we all move with relational intelligence. Learning to dance the full bodymind means developing attentional skills – the ability to attend to embodied attention which includes learning how to seek and support these skills in our partners. The physical understanding that attention is tactile is the beginning of a relational skill that helps us develop clearer communication.
This work asks for a shift in orientation that potentiates amazing dances and celebrates our desire to connect fearlessly with one another through our fullest selves. And by the by, we will also work with catching and throwing and other practices that engage our physical physics.
This 4-day workshop is for dancers beyond the beginning levels of Contact Improvisation experience, or for serious movers from other disciplines with advanced skills. Upper and lower body strength are important as well as ease with inversions.
