Call-out for 2 performers to collaborate on the creation and performance of Quarantine’s new live work, 12 Last Songs.

Where: HOME, Manchester, UK

When: Auditions: 28-29 April 2021

Deadline for applications: 6pm, 21 April 2021

Quarantine are seeking 2 performers to collaborate on the creation and performance of our new live work, 12 Last Songs, directed by Richard Gregory (Wallflower).

12 Last Songs will be part-performance, part-exhibition – a 12-hour-long piece that invites people into the room to demonstrate their labour, the work that they do. It will form a complex portrait of people and place, bringing people together from the place where it’s performed who might not normally meet.

The role of the performers – joining regular Quarantine collaborator Leentje Van de Cruys – is to ‘hold’ the space, working actively within a structure devised during rehearsal. Much of the technique of the performance will involve live conversations with the people who are demonstrating their labour.

It’s expected that you’ll be an experienced performer, at ease with thinking on your feet. You should be comfortable with engaging live with a wide range of people. Quarantine’s rehearsal process is rarely about repetition or arrival at a fixed version of the work, but rather about preparation for the live encounter with others. We expect and encourage everyone we work with to have a voice in the creation of the work.

We’re particularly interested in meeting performers who have strengths in singing (any genre) and/or a background in contemporary dance.

We should be clear – we’re not looking for actors to play fictional characters in 12 Last Songs. Nobody in the room will represent anybody other than themselves – the final work won’t be a piece of drama.

We’re actively seeking to cast 3 performers who are diverse in terms of social background, age, gender and ethnicity. With this in mind, we particularly encourage applications from people who are aged over 50 and under 30, people who identify as coming from a working-class background, people of African, Caribbean and/or Asian heritage, as well as people who define as LGB&T+ and/or as Deaf and disabled.

We are initially contracting for 3 weeks’ work (£575/week) in June & July at HOME, in Manchester. This will include a period of development and open rehearsals. We also expect to contract the performers for the premiere and tour of 12 Last Songs from Autumn 2021.

To apply, please see our website for full details on how to apply.

Application deadline: 6pm, Wednesday 21 April 2021.

No agencies please.

Auditions will take place on 28-29 April and 5-6 May 2021, at HOME in Manchester.
