Call for Berlin-based performers for a new immersive performance by Grace Euna Kim, to be presented in early September 2022 in Berlin. The performance location is confidential and will be disclosed in private. “Spaces of Dissent” is gathering a diverse performer microcosm of all abilities/disabilities, genders, ages, sizes, ethnicities, cultural and political perspectives. We wish to hear from strong and courageous performers who are interested in immersive methods as a tool for radical social and political inquiry. While the performance concept is confidential, we can say that our work will be an intense, experimental, corporeal process that challenges the limits of sense and representation, and deconstructs power dynamics of bodies in space. Candidates will be invited for a video interview and video audition, followed by an experiment in public space. We are committed to providing a barrier-free environment. If you have particular needs, please indicate them in your application.

Casting 1:Non-professional Performers: All backgrounds and perspectives are welcome

Casting 2: Experienced Professional Performers: With backgrounds in dance and dramatic arts. Performers of other disciplines (who have an affinity with those practices) are also welcome to apply.

Interviews: Until 16 July 2022

Auditions in public space: On one day between 18 July   ̶ 30 July 2022 (by invitation only)

Grace Euna Kim is a Korean-American performance and visual artist, choreographer and researcher who devises immersive encounters through a lens of psychoanalytic and critical theory. In her performance and social practice she deploys methods of deconstruction and subversion as a means to question, decode, and reinvent the theatre of the audience themselves, and thereby work through embedded social and political issues. Grace Euna Kim has orchestrated large- and small-scale performances in diverse site-specific contexts—from citywide public interventions; to cultural and educational institutions; to the intimacy of a private home. Her work has been presented in numerous art and research contexts, recently including Haus der Statistik, Berlin; Schauspiel Leipzig; Frankfurt Lab; ZK/U-Center for Art and Urbanistics, Berlin; ASCA University of Amsterdam; Solyanka VPA, Moscow; Blueproject Foundation, Barcelona; Museum of Nonconformist Art, St. Petersburg; Cité de l’Image, Luxembourg; White Box, NY; and Seoul Museum. She is a lecturer at the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin – MA Spatial Strategies Program.
