Outreach Lab: Reaching the intangible – a MIND THE DANCE lab about documenting artistic practice.
Where: Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, Waldschmidtstr. 4, 60316 Frankfurt am Main, Germany
When: 26 & 27 October 2017, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (each day)
You can come for both days or only one day – please mention this when you sign in!
In this two day workshop, Ulla Mäkinen (FIN) and Martin Streit (DE) will propose tools and pathways to practice documentation of one’s own artistic practice as dancer and/or dance teacher. We will work with movement as well as documenting it – and reflect around ideas what it means to document contemporary dance for us. Dancing and documenting together might also give us insight on how documenting our practice could be beneficial for ourselves as artists as well as for the whole field of dance.
This workshop is based on MIND THE DANCE, a digital publication of the REFLEX Europe project. The workshop is free of charge for the participants.
Ulla Mäkinen is a Finnish dancer and dance teacher, currently working as the director of the dance department of North Karelia College Outokumpu in Finland. She graduated from the MA program of HfMDK Frankfurt am Main in 2010 and has been working as a teacher and dancer around Europe, North America and Asia. She is a part of the ASIRC, the Axis Syllabus International Research Community.
Martin Streit is connected to the Tanzplattform Rhein-Main. He works in the Media Department at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. In the dance research project Motion Bank he was coordinator for the Piecemaker development. He is the technology coordinator for IDOCDE and researcher in the REFLEX Europe project.
