Tanssin Aika festival (TAF) invites choreographers and dance artists to offer works for the 2021 edition of the festival.
Where: Jyväskylä, Finland
Deadline for applications: 31.1.2021
Tanssin Aika festival (TAF) invites choreographers and dance artists to propose pieces for the two following categories:
Re-make: An existing work, which will be remade for and performed by 17-20-year old dancers in 2021
The performance will have its re-premiere at the festival in 2021, after which it will tour the provinces in the vicinity of Jyväskylä. We are expecting proposals which will challenge the young dancers. Possibly works that you would initially not expect them to do!
The work should have 3-10 performers. The choreographer will be paid a fee for one month and designers will receive fees to adapt the work to school halls and Villa Rana stage. The piece will be rehearsed in Jyväskylä.
Performances outside and in the spaces of Villa Rana
The festival takes place both in the centre of Jyväskylä and Villa Rana stages. As part of the festival we will produce a moped tour with young drivers traveling from one performance to another so that both durational and spectacular performances lasting only for a short moment suit the festival evenings. TAF 2021 is curated by artistic director Janina Rajakangs in collaboration with youth and young adults. We will invite shows that draw our interest also outside of the open call. These are spoken word, band gigs and choreography made by young people. We also preserve the right to curate by invitation, works that don’t apply. If you have any questions or want to discuss the festival, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
“It is a rare opportunity to co-organize a festival. We encourage, especially young people, who do not know contemporary dance, to come to the festival as well as send us proposals! Our aim is to create new viewpoints and to widen people’s perception of both contemporary dance and the concept of a dance festival. With this in mind we want to diversify the people who make and experience contemporary dance. We hope that in the future renewed norms of society would be visible in the danceworld as well and we are ready to put the work in!”
