The competition, which is at the core of the festival, emphasizes choreographic uniqueness from artists who bring a fresh and contemporary perspective on the body and its expression. To date it has selected some 400 groups of choreographers as finalists to showcase their work and over 110 winners for the Jury Prize and others prizes, propelling their careers forward both in Japan and abroad.
