The DynamitExperience produces our first annual dance film festival, Cords of Community; submissions open until April 20th.

Where: New York, NY

When: May 15th 2022

Deadline for applications: April 20th 2022

The DynamitExperience is opening submissions for our first annual Cords of Community Dance Film Festival.
We are seeking submissions from artists exploring new and exciting collaborations between dance and film as interconnected mediums. TDE is specifically seeking Dance Films (8 minutes or less) that address the theme of Community; showcasing creative solutions to alternate locations, and daring to experiment with new ideas in dance-film making to elevate the experiences film specifically has to offer.

Up to 10 Finalists will be selected by Panelists: Andy Chapman, Juel Lane, Remi Harris, Rebecca Oviatt, Latra Ann Wilson, and André Zachary.

Submissions are open April 5, 2022 – April 20th, 2022 8 PM EST.

Panelists will notify finalists by April 27th, 2022.

The in-person screening will occur at La Plaza Cultural, on May 15th, 2022. All finalists will be strongly encouraged to attend in person and represent their film at the Event.
TDE is hosting this evening of networking, moderated discussion, and celebration of the chosen films. We encourage any artists interested in supporting the films being shown, or interested in digital dance collaborations, to attend. This event is being offered to the public entirely pay-what-you-can. There will be no charge for submissions, or for filmmaker attendance.

COVID Regulations:
TDE is committed to offering live Art intentionally for, and safely to, all community members. As of April 2022, this outdoor film screening will adhere to CDC & NYC’s current COVID guidelines in outdoor spaces: masks will be optional and vaccination status will not be collected. We ask that all participants respect the choices of others and understand every human has the right to personally navigate the reopening of businesses during the pandemic accordingly. However, TDE understands that CDC & NYC guidelines are narrowly concerted for an able population and TDE is committed to being as inclusive as possible. Over the coming weeks, we will monitor case count, hospitalization capacity, and virus strain information carefully– and will update our policy accordingly. If you would like to attend but need to request invulnerability accommodations, please do not hesitate to reach out

There are no steps or level changes to get into the garden, however the ground near the entrance is covered in bark and usually a bit uneven, so please reach out to us if you may need assistance in any way. La Plaza Cultural is a fairly accessible space. Note: there is a curb cut at the corner (SW corner of 9th and C). If you are relying on MTA transit, please contact 511 as some schedule maintenance affects accessible stations nearby.
