Where: NOD Nuova Officina della Danza Torino, Italy

When: April 29 – May 1

Deadline for applications: February 28th

The way we feel and the way we dance are always changing, but there can be a tendency to avoid that fluidity in how we approach our dance practices. It can be vulnerable, and uncomfortable. The tendency is to think beyond our bodies and how we are feeling, in pursuit of a concept of dancing. Its benefits can be limiting, and its a shame to accept this as the status quo of our training, or our careers.

The workshop will begin with a practice of sensation-based improvisation and exploration of pre-thought impulses for movement. We’ll touch in with our thinking minds and work towards softening the conceptual filter on our own dancing; giving in to direct experience. We’ll aim to feel more, be less inhibited by our thinking minds, and trust in the wisdom of the body and our passion to move.

From here, we’ll put this research into practice with the repertory of Alan Lucien Øyen, drawing on some highly physical material from Bon Voyage Bob, a work created on the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.
