Moving heritage
This is an indegenous movement workshop rooted in Yoruba Bata dance. The originator of Bata is *Sango* (the God of lighting and Thunder) and it can be traced to the old oyo empire which is located in western part of Nigeria. Through this workshop , we will be reimagining its rhythms and techniques for today’s dancers.
This 2 days workshop will introduce participants to Bata’s cultural foundations and histories before guiding them through physical training in its signature footwork and composition. We’ll then experiment with adapting these elements into contemporary movement phrases, creating a bridge between tradition and body innovation.

The session is made for intermediate/advanced dancers but remains open to dedicated beginners. Through a mix of Bata technique , improvisation , and collaborative creation, movers will gain both cultural knowledge and practical tools for their artistic practice.
