Michael Loehr returns to NOD for a one-week session shaped by his experience as a performer.
5 days included in the ICD Program and only open to 5 external dancers. Apply now!

Where: NOD Nuova Officina della Danza, Via Mantova 34 Torino – Italy

When: May 19 – 23, 2025

Deadline for applications: As long as there is space. First come first serves

Michael’s workshop consists of three main elements:
1) A warm up that is intended to quite literally raise the body temperature in order to facilitate the flow of oxygen, to improve the efficiency of muscle contraction, and to soften the dancers’ bodies and free their articulation in order to prevent injuries.
2) A floorwork and movement phrase section that focuses on functionality and energy efficiency, so that the dancers can eventually approach choreographic structures without preoccupation and
let their dance break free.
3) A choreographic lab, that challenges the participants awareness and responsibility, and encourages them to move freely inside a complex multi-layered environment with a clear set of choreographic rules. By increasing the dancers’ skills to process information and by encouraging them to make decisions, the choreographic process is turned into a playful game.

Michael Loehr is a Berlin-based performer, choreographer and teacher.
He has performed in works by Eun-Me Ahn, Shlomi Bitton, Ingun Bjørnsgaard, Lionel Hoche, Jo Strømgren, and Guy Weizman & Roni Haver.
For the last 15 years he has been a close collaborator of Emanuel Gat. He has staged works for Ballet National de Marseille, Candoco Dance Company, Cedar Lake Contemporay Ballet, Jin Xing Dance Theater, Scottish Dance Theatre, and Staatsballett Berlin. He is regularly teaching for institutions like Ballet de Lorraine, Brancaccio Danza, Carte Blanche, Folkwang University of the Arts, Sasha Waltz & Guests,
and VA Wölfl’s Neuer Tanz.
He is particularly interested in exploring the possibilities of real-time choreography, in bringing one’s own movement language into dialogue with other performers, and in exploring the intersection of sports science and dance in order to increase effectiveness and energy efficiency. In 2023, Michael became the first dancer to receive the prestigious Herbert von Karajan Prize for outstand
