Rooted in Northumberland, Meta4 Dance Company creates emotive work shaped by our environment and experiences. We focus on providing access to high-quality dance for people with learning disabilities and communities who experience rural isolation.

Meta4 Dance Company is seeking 4 North East based professional contemporary dancers to create their group work ‘Jumpers for Goalposts’. We are looking for disabled and non-disabled dancers to join the company for two weeks of creation, 5 workshops and 5 performances. The piece will work collaboratively with local artists, including costume designer Daisy FitzPatrick, dramaturg Joe Hufton and a local musician.

“Jumpers for Goalposts” is a new family dance piece for 9-12-year-olds which follows a football team as they test and build relationships, confidence, and teamwork while having a kick about.
Dance artists must be North East based and have a prior interest in sports.

Who we are looking for:
We are interested in working with performers who are led by and interested in inclusivity in the arts and sharing awareness of this in rural locations across the North East.
We are interested in working with people who have an interest in sports recreationally or professionally, specifically football. A knowledge of the game is desired.

We would like to hear from you if you have:
A willingness to collaborate with multidisciplinary artists.
An interest in delivering workshops and performing in remote rural locations.
An interest and knowledge of sports, especially football.
Adaptability within the creation and performance processes.
An interest in working in an open, comfortable and sharing environment.

Friday 12 August. Audition – Dance City 10.30am-4pm
Monday 12 – Friday 16 September. Rehearsal – Dance City Newcastle
Monday 19 – Friday 23 September. Rehearsal – Alnwick Playhouse
Saturday 24 September. Workshop + performance – Alnwick Playhouse
Monday 24 – Friday 28 October. 1 workshop + performance in 4 village halls across Northumberland: Felton, Seaton Delaval, Rothbury and Acklington. Specific dates for each venue will be shared before rehearsals begin.
(All venues are wheelchair accessible & have accessible toilets and car parking)

The selection process will consist of;
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a 4-hour small audition, following this structure:
10.30-12.30 warm-up, technical exercises, group work.
12.30-1.30 lunch. (please bring your own, the Dance City cafe is currently closed)
1.30-2.30 creative.
2.30-4 interviews.
(There is no need to prepare anything before the audition).

All applicants must have their own DBS and public liability insurance.
Meta4 is committed to paying dancers in line with ITC rates and will give a travel contribution throughout the project.
