Delivered by ID in partnership with Trinity Laban and Siobhan Davies Dance, MA Creative Practice: Dance Professional enables experienced practitioners to develop their artistic practice in a stimulating environment of intellectual and creative inquiry.

It supports mid-career artists to:
• reflect on their body of professional experience and its role in their ongoing learning
• engage in intensive studio-based experiences with significant artists and a skilled peer group
• deepen their own practice as performers/makers
• develop their understanding of a range of research methodologies within the arts and pursue their own area of artistic interest.

The programme works with an expanded notion of dance in dialogue with wide artistic and cultural contexts. It embraces a diversity of forms and approaches, with guest artists of international renown leading practical and discursive sessions and seminars. Peer learning and support is integral to the approach, with students tending to bring and exchange a breadth of experience and expertise. The programme promotes a fluid and generative exchange between theory and practice, in the belief that knowledge emerges through dance and movement practice itself.

With two core modules led by Independent Dance and based at Siobhan Davies Studios, this course offers a rare bridge between the academic and dance professional spheres, drawing on the resources and expertise of professional as well as academic institutions.

These two core modules are Embodied Practice and Investigative Practice. Both are run as intensive 5-week blocks in order to make it more possible for students to continue professional commitments outside of the course.
