The sessions will focus on technical partnering principles and how we might integrate these into the practice of contact improvisation. There will be some somatic internal work to bring the attention into the body and the present moment without judgement. This will lead to solo explorations and relevant patterns in preparation for meeting other bodies in space. With one or more partners we will then work on listening through touch and exploration of weight exchange and support, drawing upon traditional principles and techniques from contact improvisation and martial arts. This tuning in will serve to enrich our physical communication, resulting in clearer understanding of the intention, direction, and energy of the other bodies we encounter in space. Time will also be given to playing with inversions in preparation for more acrobatic possibilities when receiving support. Through improvisational and performance oriented scores we shall then investigate opportunities to find liberation from the form of pure technique and existing patterns, into dancing that is more personal, intuitive, and exciting.

Lewis began his journey to becoming a dancer in his early teenage years through capoeira and breaking. Aged 18, he went on to train more formally at London Contemporary Dance School.
