When: 12th, 13th and 14th of May 2017, 10:30 a.m. – 17:30 p.m.

Where: ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, exact address will be announced after contacting us

For: dancers and acrobats/ circus artists – students and professionals

The workshop is an introduction to the working practice of company Panama Pictures.

The workshop focuses on improvisation and instant composition by using a method that combines elements of contact improvisation, acrobatics and martial arts with compositional tools. It stimulates the dancers and acrobats to trust the instinctive knowledge of their bodies and follow its natural movement impulses while being actively involved in the context of the moment. This encourages movement not for its own sake, not directed by the brain, but as a sincere reaction to an inner or outer impulse, always true to the moment and connected to the outside world. The workshop is an invitation to listen to the body, to take risks and to communicate through movement. Alongside to Miquel de Jong, performers of Panama Pictures will share their knowledge with the participants. Aerialist Fynn Neb will give a rope training and dancer Francesco Barba will give sessions focusing on floor work.

Panama Pictures makes performances at the crossroads of dance and circus in which the disciplines seamlessly merge. The work is dynamic and at times spectacular, but also always intimate and vulnerable.

Miquel de Jong is the choreographic assistant and movement coach of Panama Pictures training the performers and working in close collaboration with choreographer Pia Meuthen. Next to this he works as a dancer, a rolfer and a teacher giving workshops in many countries such as Russia, Spain, Germany and China. His dance career started at Scapino Ballet, the Netherlands and then brought him to France where he worked as first soloist at the renown modern dance company L’Opera de Lyon and Ballet Preljocaj and later to London where he danced for choreographer Russell Maliphant. Through the inspiring work with Russell he came in contact with a variety of movement styles and techniques such as improvisation, contact improvisation, capoeira, acrobatics and body-mind techniques like yoga, thai chi, rolfing and meditation. His view on dance and movement changed entirely and led him to discover his own method for teaching improvisation and instant composition called improXchange.
