hooverhaus x Volta Residency provides studio space and resources to LA-based artists of different disciplines to meditate on the theme of home culminating in a platform to showcase their creation.

Where: Los Angeles, US

When: Monday, February 5th-Saturday, February 10th

Deadline for applications: Applications close Jan 27th. Selections are announced on Jan 29th.

This first iteration of hooverhaus x VOLTA Residency welcomes LA-based artists of different disciplines to meditate on the theme of home and what it means to them. The residency provides one week of free studio space for rehearsals (up to 10 hours), tech/production support, and mentorship culminating in a platform to showcase their creation.

This Residency is part of Volta’s research for our upcoming work, “Glass House” (premiering Feb 29th – March 3rd at G-Son Studios, LA) exploring the ‘dream house’ theory, which suggests that human psyches are like stories of a house built from childhood and societal experiences. We are interested to see how our community engages and reflects upon this theme of home. Applying artists are invited to imagine how they would transform hooverhaus for the duration of the Residency.

Directed by Mamie Green, Volta fuses physicality, theatricality and multidisciplinary approaches to performance. Volta is passionate about presenting dance in accessible, nontraditional spaces, often collaborating with artists across mediums.

Directed and founded by Sadie Wilking, hooverhaus is a brick and mortar rental space in the heart of Silverlake that also offers opportunities for emerging artists to share their “first drafts” to the Los Angeles community.
