F-O-R-M invites Youth and Emerging Artists from across what is colonially known as Canada to apply with a new or existing short film concept, between 3 to 15 minutes in length, to premiere at our 8th Annual Festival in November 2023.

This program is an opportunity for artists to develop their creative voices through experimentation and collaboration. F-O-R-M gives free creative rein to all applicants and will be available to support any technical or artistic questions that might arise throughout the creation process. Artists will have five months to complete their creations and are expected to meet specific deadlines throughout this period, and will have their films premiered at the festival in November.

Selected participants will receive:
– $3000 towards production funds
– Facility and equipment resources (up to $1500 value) through partner organizations Cineworks (Vancouver) Charles Street Video (Toronto) and Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (Calgary)
– Workshops facilitated by practicing artists in the movement-on-screen community, tailored to participating artists’ needs and interests
– One-on-one mentorship with an established artist
– F-O-R-M Office Hours: available time for artists to drop-in, connect with fellow artists, and ask questions during their creation process
– World premiere of film at 2023 festival

Section 1: General information about you
Section 2: Film Proposal (Option 1, 2, or 3)
Section 3: Support material

There are 3 ways to apply:
– Option 1: Complete the application form digitally and attach a single PDF document with written answers responding to the application questions.
– Option 2: Submit a video (up to 10 mins) responding to the application questions. There is no need to submit anything high quality or edited, and you are not obligated to be visible in the video. Just make sure that we can hear you clearly and that we understand your ideas and intentions. Complete the application form digitally and attach a Youtube or Vimeo link.
– Option 3: Participate in a 15-minute video call responding to the questions in Section 2 with one of our team members. This meeting will be guided as a casual conversation, recorded and shared with the 2023 Artistic Committee. If you are interested in this option, please select a preferred time for a video call by APRIL 5th, 2023 via the form. Video calls will take place April 11 and 12 to provide enough time for the recordings to be transcribed and shared with the Artistic Committee.
