Deadline for applications: till completed (only 5 people accepted)
What is devising solo online?
An online Laboratory which offers artists advice and assistance to research and begins to construct a solo performance work in the full breath of its multiple meanings and manifestations. A limited group of 5 autonomous artists will share a 2 months’ investigative journey working as a cooperative to strengthen and nurture each individual process.
We are aware of the difficulties inherent to the solo performance practice. Devising solo offers an intimate research framework in which we recreate common references, lines of action, survival methods and collaborative debates around contemporary performance practices. This laboratory encourages
personal work and provides online assistance to further advance your artistic practice.
This lab is an invitation to anyone keen on developing live solo performance work regardless of their level of experience.
Coaching will be available via personal online meetings. We will facilitate two practices a week by zoom and email using effective tools and exercises of movement, voice and text research among other things; these will be supplemented by studies, readings and feedback. There will be an invitation and examples to experiment with a wide range of stage possibilities including lighting, photography, video, sound, costume research and set design where participants will be offered time to develop their ideas.
Artists are required to be committed to the process and are encouraged to participate fully. Further tasks will be assigned based on individual needs. Each process has its own time frame; however, the works in process are to be presented on the 1st of September in an online event which the group will produce together.
How do we encourage the performance material to manifest itself?
How do we develop a practice?
How can we integrate different disciplines into a concrete form?
How to emancipate our ideas through the body?
This laboratory is facilitated by Javier Murugarren [Basque country / The Netherlands]
A multidisciplinary artist working with choreographic experimentation, bringing movement together with textiles, sound and language. His work has been presented in places such as Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Royal Palace (Amsterdam), Saatchi Gallery & V&A Museum (London), Casa Encendida (Madrid) among many others.
He is a founding member of the performance troupe Instant collective (2006), and curates ReMo (2018), a Movement Research studio in Amsterdam Noord.
