The dance ensemble at Stadttheater Gießen is looking for a rehearsal director & choreographic assistant (m/f/x) to join the ensemble full-time from March 2025.

Your tasks:
– Carrying out the regular contemporary dance training sessions in the morning and warm-ups before performances
– Organisation of guest trainers (contacting, budgeting, support)
– Choreographic assistance
– Preparation, management, and follow-up of rehearsals; documentation of rehearsal processes (videos/ written notes)
– Creating & adapting plans to support the daily requirements of the performers
– Acting as the supporting voice in concerns between performer and management & vice versa
– Management of revival rehearsals (Wiederaufnahmeproben); occasionally conception and realisation of physical introductions (introductory format for audience members)
– Evening performance direction (Abendspielleitung)
– Conceiving and organising the community programme
– Developing your own ideas for the department and working together with management to realise them
Requirements:
• Experience
o in conceptualising & teaching contemporary dance classes for professional dancers over an extended period of time
o as a contemporary dancer and/ or physical theatre performer, pref. at a municipal theatre
o as a rehearsal director, pref. at a municipal theatre
o in working in a team & catering to the needs of different parties (ensemble, management, etc.)
• Teaching and facilitation skills
• Connections to dancers and choreographers in Germany & Europe
• Ability to give constructive feedback
• Desire to implement a vision for the dance department at Stadttheater Gießen
• Charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent

• Part-time contract based on the NV Bühne (SR Solo) for the remainder of the 24/25 season (start of employment: 1st March 2025)

Interview timeline:
All applicants will be notified by 17th Jan 2025.
Selected applicants will be invited to an online meeting (20th – 26th Jan 2025).
Thereupon, successful applicants will be invited to an in-person meeting (28th Jan – 1st Feb 2025) to teach a contemporary dance class followed by an interview with the artistic director and management team.
Based on these two meetings, a decision will be made by 9th Feb 2025.
