Danse élargie is a competition for artists from all over the world, from every field, without age limits, to introduce utterly original projects to be staged at Théâtre de la Ville in Paris on 25 & 26 June 2022.

Where: Théâtre de la Ville – Paris, France

When: The competition will be held on 25 and 26 June 2022

Deadline for applications: 31 December 2021

Anyone can apply / anything can happen, as long as you have something to champion.
Only two rules: a maximum of 10 minutes / a minimum of 3 performers onstage.

Since 2010, initiated by Boris Charmatz, then director of Musée de la danse, and Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota, director of Théâtre de la Ville, alongside the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès, this competition has seen the emergence of artists who are now widely recognised. Two new organisers, ex-finalists themselves, have now joined the adventure: the collectif FAIR-E / CCN de Rennes et de Bretagne and (LA) HORDE / CCN-Ballet national de Marseille.

To all emerging artists, we invite you to be your moment, your era, your aspirations. To dare anything that dances, in the broadest sense of the term. To invent future movements.
You will be seen by an enthusiastic audience, experienced professionals, a jury of high-profile artists.
More than a competition, it is a unifying moment, a feast of ideas.

Applications are accepted until 31 December 2021, and the competition will take place on 25 & 26 June 2022 at the Théâtre de la Ville – Espace Cardin in Paris.

“I joyously remember the discussions with Boris Charmatz which gave rise to the competition. During ten years, we have tried – together, with the teams of Musée de la danse and Théâtre de la Ville, with the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès by our side since the beginning – to get acquainted with tomorrow’s artists in a different way. To encourage them to chart new routes, curious, unexpected ones. Today, we are inviting Johanna Faye, Saïdo Lehlouh and (LA)HORDE to join us on this adventure. All of them notable finalists of Danse élargie, since then appointed directors of Centres chorégraphiques nationaux (national dance centres) in Rennes and Marseille. Here they are, beside us, committed to helping future generations emerge in turn.” — Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota

“I continue to believe that Danse élargie is not made for plaudits and prizewinners, however brilliant and promised- to-soar they may be. Danse élargie is a collective adventure that rouses all of us: the participants, the viewers, the jury, the associates and the organisers. It also provides unity of time, place and action which makes this competition a Greek drama… well… something of a drama, a melee in movement specially, full of aspiration, and above all, life.” — Boris Charmatz

This 7th edition has been made possible by the support of the French ministry of Culture-the General Directorate of Artistic Creation (DGCA), the SACD and the Institut Français.
