Where: Duke University – Durham, NC, USA
When: Fall 2019
Deadline for applications: February 15, 2019
The MFA in Dance at Duke University is a new two-year, full-time program conceived for the ambitious, eager, rigorous dreamer, who wants to make Duke University ‘their studio’.
Dedicated to moving dance from the fringes of cultural endeavors to the very center, this program is truly interdisciplinary in nature, affecting dance itself: how it is implemented in our society, and the social and political realities our field can help to shape.
Everyone moves; everyone can dance. We envisage not only great dance-artists to grow in this program but want to support students with visions, ambitions and radical openness to create revolutionary dances, methods, and theories of their own — no matter if they are aimed to heal, educate, honor or deconstruct.
Open to artist-students with expertise in all forms of movement practice from any culture or geographical area, the MFA not only encourages but requires substantial study in related disciplines chosen from Duke’s many outstanding graduate programs. We are looking for applicants with an established practice and/or career — recent graduates as well as career changers — who can demonstrate a clear commitment to embodied practice.
Applicants will be chosen on the strength of their research proposal and its fit to Duke’s academic landscape.
