The class focuses on developing strategies for being present while investigating the perpetual dynamic negotiations within the body and the space around it. The class begins with isolation exercise, exploring and reacquainting ourselves with our bodies and the space we find ourselves in.
The exercises incrementally layers movement and compositional strategies that challenge participants to experience themselves and the people around them as one.
Working towards increasing self-awareness and identifying stimuli inside and outside of the body, using the mind as a catalyst for shifts in sensation and perception, and curiously exploring possibilities in movement.
The class progresses with individual and group exercises that allow participants to examine the propositions of the opening improvisational discoveries.
Bryan
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Bryan grew up and studied dance in New York City. He was a performer with the Netherlands Dance Theater (NDT) and Crystal Pite’s company Kidd Pivot. Originating roles and performing in works by master choreographers including Jirí Kylián, Ohad Naharin and Crystal Pite.
Bryan began his choreographic career in 2012. Since then, he has created original works for internationally renowned companies such as the Netherlands Dance Theater, Zurich Ballet, The Bolshoi Ballet, Bern Ballet, Ballet Theater Basel, Tanz Lucerne Theater, Hessisches Staatsballet, Nuremberg Ballet, among others. Bryan was nominated for the 2016 Rolex protege award and is the recipient of the 2017 Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship Award, the 2019 Jacobs Pillow Fellowship Award and the 2020 prestigious German Der Faust Award in choreography.
In 2015, Bryan founded ARIAS Company. A project based multidisciplinary company where he created evening length works which toured to festival such as Jacob’s Pillow(USA), Danse Danse(Montreal), and The Colours Festival(Stuttgart).
