AVAYAVA invites dance teachers, performers, filmmakers and other interdisciplinary artists to be a part of the 6th edition of the contemporary dance festival.

We also invite young emerging choreographers from India to present their work in the contemporary dance idiom at the festival by sending us an email with subject: YEC 2017. Dancers based in India can also apply to our scholarship program to participate in the workshops and work behind the scenes in organising the festival. The last date to apply for YEC 2017 and the scholarship program is 30 Nov 2016.
With a strong training component at its core; the festival hosts workshops and master classes for the first 3 days in various disciplines of Contemporary Dance – aimed at both a specialised, more experienced and a newer student base. For the 6th edition, movement disciplines like GAGA Technique, Axis Syllabus, Modern Dance Techniques, Butoh, Contact & Improvisation, Composition, Nikolais/Louis technique, Contemporary Fusion OR Repertory Workshops of established choreographers, would best fit into our program. We also invite teachers who are experienced in working with kids to apply for our littleAVAYAVA program.
We also invite filmmakers to submit their dance films in the narrative, experimental or documentary genres to be screened at the festival. Performers, preferably but not limited to; solo,duet or trios, and with a strong technique and a diverse movement vocabulary can also apply to present their work at the final day showcase of the festival. For programming purposes, we are more likely to select an artist who can teach at the workshops as well as perform at the final day showcase of the festival.
Please note that AVAYAVA is an artist run, not for profit, contemporary dance festival organised to educate the Indian dancers and audiences about contemporary dance culture. We work with limited to no outside funding.
Only shortlisted artists will be contacted. If you didn’t hear from us by the end of the year 2016, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful.
