About Hivewild-
Hivewild is a contemporary movement initiative created to unlock emotion and ignite conversation through formal performances and public programming dedicated to community development. Founded in 2016 by Artistic Director Katherine Maxwell, Hivewild’s work is rooted in the principles of radical compassion and lifelong curiosity. Hivewild’s vision is movement-based artworks acting as conduits to unite communities. While in public perception dance can seem cryptic and elusive, movement is intrinsic to each of our daily existences. Every human has a body, and Hivewild uses this understanding as a starting point to identify connections rather than differences between people.

As a 501c3 New York City-based non-profit dance company, Hivewild is composed of 10 dancers, 12 collaborating artists, 6 board members, and 7 members of the advisory committee ranging in ages from 22-50. Hailing from across the United States, Dominican Republic, Israel, Czech Republic, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, and Austria, Hivewild supports national and international artists who hold an 0-1 visa living and working in New York City. The entire Hivewild team is based in NYC, representing neighborhoods within Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan boroughs. Beyond nationality, our entire team includes both people of color and people of varying identities within the LGBTQ+ community. @hivewild

About Katherine Maxwell-
Creating work for the mainstage, alternative spaces, and for film, Katherine Maxwell is a choreographer, director, and the founding Artistic Director of Hivewild. Her work has been presented across New York City venues which include Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, Dinner Gallery, the Center for Performance Research, Triskelion Arts, and Atlantic Terminal-Barclays Center, among others. Additionally, Maxwell has been featured by online platforms such as Nowness, VICE, and on Vimeo as a Staff Pick. Her choreographic practice is predicated upon listening to the body from the inside out. With a strong belief in the importance of genuine impulse, her process includes the use of internal triggers—a thought, a flavor, an emotion—to spurn motion throughout the body. A refined fluidity and strong sense of honesty are signature to her work. Her practice seeks to blur the edges between performance, installation, and encounter. Maxwell is actively interested in using movement as a platform for mindfulness and human acceptance.
