Founded in 1981, the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal is a national institution of higher learning specializing in the professional training of contemporary dance performers. Recognized for the quality, audacity and rigour of its training, it produces professional and versatile dancers. It is affiliated with the Cégep du Vieux Montréal and is accredited by the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’enseignement supérieur du Québec. The École de danse contemporaine de Montréal trains future generations of contemporary dance artists. It is a place of learning, creation, research, innovation and development, imbued with human values, where the vital forces of the discipline converge.
Role
Under the supervision of the General Manager, the Artistic and Academic Director is responsible for planning, directing, organizing, coordinating and evaluating all of the programs of studies at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal. He/she is also responsible for the supervision of students and the establishment of the best conditions to achieve academic success, in keeping with the vision, mission and orientations of the organization. The candidate will be able to provide leadership to the team, have agility in navigating the teaching environment and the entire dance ecosystem at the local, national, and international levels, as well as a keen understanding of the professional community’s needs. The incumbent will have an innovative vision that aligns with the school’s mission to grow the institution in a way that respects the realities of the moment, its history, and its outlook on the future.
Must have
University education in an appropriate field of specialization or a duly recognized certificate of equivalence;
Recognized experience and credibility in teaching dance or supervising dance education in Quebec, Canada and/or internationally;
Excellent knowledge of contemporary dance and the cultural and artistic milieu (local, national, and international);
Extensive contacts in the dance and dance education communities, an asset;
Knowledge of the Quebec school system and its various stakeholders;
Knowledge of new technological and pedagogical approaches in the dance milieu;
Fluency in French and English (spoken and written);
Functional knowledge of the main software programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.);
Good management skills;
Ability to work in a team.
