Intention is what activates the muscles,
” Miyazaki discovered while animating the characters in his films.
This structured improvisation class is aimed for dancers to further their understanding of themselves as artists in motion in relation to the space and the people around them. Through physical and theatrical games we will move with purpose, responding dynamically to what is in the moment. We
will wake up what we have and create awareness around how we can access it and utilize it. Be in our fullest expression of ourselves with our quirks and nuances- all of what makes us human, and what makes you, you.
We will challenge our perception about ourselves by tapping into our curiosity in order to move through both physical and mental boundaries allowing us to uncover our potential as collaborators, interpreters, movement generators, and performers.
“Technique” is utilising what you have to its fullest capacity and continually being in the conversation with ourselves to navigate how we use it in relation to the context we are in. Ultimately we will strive to arrive to a labyrinth-like body of unlimited possibilities where we then feel free to make intentional choices relating to space with clarity.
All of this to prepare and support you to be able to contribute at your optimal capacity as a dancer, collaborator in your creative endeavor and processes. To make these tools tangible we will learn repertoire which encompasseses both movement and text. Movement driven by words, words which
evoke movement.
