Applications are OPEN for ‘AMDS Residency for Emerging Artist (25+ Years)’, for artists based in London.

Where: Academy Mews Dance Studios, London, UK

When: October – December 2021

Deadline for applications: 30th September

Academy Mews Dance Studios, as part of the Camden and London community, is seeking to support more artists in the development and advancement of their creative journeys by creating a 2021 Artists Residency Programme.

Covid-19 has had a huge financial impact on the dance, music and theatre communities across the country as well as independent businesses like ourselves. By providing residency space, we hope to remove barriers for artists who cannot afford to hire the space they need. We will be providing space for 30 hours throughout the specified residency period, and free AMDS membership for 3 months once a final showcase has been held.

Artist’s residencies will culminate in a final showing of their work either in our Balcony Studio or Online shared on our website, depending on COVID guidelines. This will be an opportunity for showcasing their work in a professional space to invite producers/agents or venue representative. Hopefully find funding and future collaborators, and of course make new contacts. AMDS will also provide support with media and publicity. You’ll have an opportunity to have a feedback session from our team of artist and working with one of our resident mentors as well.

The programme began in January 2021, it has already supported young artist – April Gunawardena and Brandon Walker + one emerging artist- Chester Hayes. You can check the work they have created in the time of residency on our website.

You can view their work and interview discussing their experience at Academy Mews here:

Applications are now open for fourth phrase of our residency and you can apply until 30th September 2021. Any Emerging artists or a collective (up to 6 people) where main applicant is 25+ years are eligible to apply. We will consider applications from artists whose practice is focused on either of this discipline: dance, theatre, music or multidisciplinary. Residency will commence on 25th October and the online showcase will happen in the first week of December.
