Interdisciplinary training for dancers
(ITD) is a new series of workshops that aim to give dancers
easy access to skills and methodologies that they would not normally have access to. The inaugural two day ‘Acting
will be led by Orlando Seale
who will explore a range of techniques and approaches.Broadly speaking the workshop
will fall into two parts: those exercises that help to develop the performer’s responsiveness and presence, what is commonly referred to as ‘being in the moment’, and those that focus on building the inner life and physicality of a character. We will be touching on scene analysis; the conscious and unconscious beliefs suggested by the character’s language; journalling in the character’s voice; exploring the creative unconscious to find a personal connection to the material; improvisation; hot-seating; mask; psychological gesture, and other physical approaches to exploring character.
Finally how does the performer find a fruitful balance between the invisible inner work, the body/rhythm/energy of a character, and being fully receptive to the myriad gifts presented by each fresh moment with one’s partners?
