In the workshop, we will be exploring principles of space, weight, time and flow. We will practice improvisations in which we explore pathways through the body, space and eventually through others, how to use weight and different amounts of resistance to create momentum and flow, and how to interrupt or cope with an interruption. We will pay attention to the dialogue between thinking and experiencing ‘being’, and our ability to choose these different states of consciousness.
Elements – Bartenieff movement fundamentals- Floor work co-ordination, softness, suppleness, strength and awareness, active yoga, proprioception and core stability training.
Improvisation – exploring the kinesphere, leaning into a soft, textured, articulate and organic body. Emerging form through exploration of various movement research ideas, related to space, weight, time and flow.
Relationship – studying basic principles of communication through touch, balance, pivot, understanding speaking and listening, which values do we use when dancing with someone else. How we can experience a collective centrifuge of self-generating energy, how to interrupt or cope with an interruption and how to use pressure to create motion through the body.
Both days there will be sessions on selected repertoire and improvisation practices from works by Iván Pérez.
