Sifting is a residential dance workshop taught by Robert Hayden. We invite dancers, actors and performers to come and train with Robert Hayden for 2 weeks intensive.
Robert Hayden: Born in the US, Robert was a nationally competitive gymnast for 13 years and in 1989 enrolled in the BFA curriculum for theatre and dance at the University of New Mexico. He has been a member of Ultima Vez since 2002, performing for the creations Blush, Sonic Boom, PUUR, Spiegel and the revivals of What the Body Does Not Remember and In Spite of Wishing and Wanting. Since 2009, he has collaborated as director, choreographer, performer, and composer with various artists both in Belgium and abroad.
SIFTING: This program will ask us to pierce into the heart of our unknown, the ‘hidden’, or shadow sides both within ourselves and within our work. Naturally, this work will be asking us to develop greater awareness and clarity in our creative processes. From this starting point, we will focus on the dynamic relationship between impulse and action. Elements of physical, psychological, and emotional risk will be introduced each day, challenging our individual limitations, inviting us to go beyond them, revealing our unique language and presence as performers. The main emphasis is on developing within oneself what can be called the ‘total act’; a state wherein the performer works toward creating his or her own language of movement ‘as a theatrical act’ rather than as a technique. This workshop is open to all actors, dancers, and performers.
