Making Dance Happen is running our third project in Peru in early 2018.
We now have three spaces open for dance artists to join us for a month of dance activities in Chincha Alta, Peru. We collaborate closely with a local NGO, Social Creativa on providing a dance programme that functions as a summer school for the community, who have limited access to dance education.
Where: Chincha Alta, Peru
When: 21 January – 17 February 2018
Deadline for applicants: 25 September (midnight GMT) 2017
Alongside engaging with the local community, teaching dance classes of various styles, you will be spending 2 hours a day in residency – giving you time and space to work on an Art project/choreography of your choice. Throughout the project, you will have opportunities to perform your own work as well as work created on the group and in collaboration with local dancers.
You will be a professionally trained dancer, with proven teaching experience. You’ll ideally speak several languages – Spanish preferred, be open to collaborative process and have a wish to expand your horizon. It is essential that you are good natured, patient, respectful and curious of other cultures. You’ll have a passion for creating access to dance and understand the nurturing powers of engaging with dance for young adults. You’ll find creative solutions to problems and continuously embrace challenges with a healthy sense of humour.
Your day to day activities will be based around planning and teaching between 1-3 classes a day. Additionally you will be expected to partake in rehearsals for pieces of work that might be shown throughout the project. You will be flexible in nature and be ready to take on last minute assignments. We run this program with all participants as co-authors of the experience and you will have many opportunities to help shape the program.
Dates: 21 January – 17 February 2018 (with a possibility of a one week extension, awaiting funding)
Cost: Costs associated with this programme is your return flight from your location – Lima as well as cost for weekend excursions/beach/shopping trips.
Travel on project days, accommodation and most meals provided. We stay with local host families (basic, shared accommodation), which highly enrich our engangement with the local cuisine and customs.
Additionally you will be required to obtain your own travel insurance.
Note: We run a fundraising campaign to support the cost of the trip. We expect our participants to help with fundraising efforts where possible. We will provide you with advise if you wish to fundraise for the cost of your flight.
Former volunteers have previously used a Making Dance Happen project as part of their university education and as research and development for new projects. To date we have had participating artists from Denmark, England, Italy, Germany and USA.
In order to apply please send a recent CV + showreel to firstname.lastname@example.org. It would be lovely if you would tell us a bit more about yourself in a cover letter too. We regret that we can only reply to shortlisted applicants.
Deadline: 25 September (midnight GMT)
