Lost Dog Dance Autumn Residency
Where: Laughton Lodge, Laughton, East Sussex, UK
When: Thursday 7th – Sunday 10th September 2017
The Lost Dog Dance rural residency is back on offer and we are currently recruiting recent graduates and current theatre/dance students for our Autumn 2017 Residency. This will be a 4 day intensive led by Lost Dog Dance’s Artistic Director, Ben Duke and will replicate the first stages of Lost Dog’s rehearsal process, exploring theatrical, vocal and physical tasks as a way of creating solo material.
“I enjoyed that we were given a lot of different ways, ideas and tools to enter in the movement and creation of material. I thought it was very generous from Ben to share his work in a way that allows us to bring the experience home and to get inspired by it. The atmosphere was really nice, positive and familiar and not pressurized…that influences practice in a very good way!” – Participant 2016
“I loved the physicality of Pippa’s class I thought the residency was really well paced in terms of allowing us to get comfortable with each other and challenging us as artists.” Participant 2016
The days will begin with a contemporary ballet class taught by former Netherlands Dancer, Pippa Duke* followed by creative sessions exploring the use of voice in generating movement; play in rehearsal and performance; spontaneity; storytelling as a tool for generating movement and the relationship between audience and performer. There will also be time for the participants to work individually and an opportunity to share what is created on the final Sunday morning. The residency will be based at the idyllic Laughton Lodge near Lewes, a tranquil and inspiring space in the East Sussex countryside, where participants are invited to stay for the duration of the residency.
*Pippa teaches at LCDS & danced with Nederlands Dance Theater. Her class is designed to allow contemporary dancers to access ballet with a sense of flow and strong emphasis on connection to the floor, travelling and 3dimensionality.
