Where: Studio CityGate, Grondelsstraat 152, 1070 Brussels, Belgium
When: 23-27 April , 2018 | 10:00 – 12:00
We begin from still meditative positions that sustain subtle concentration. Slowly starting to work with vibrations that enter the body, the practice becomes more dynamic to the point in which we can move swiftly, shake vigorously, extend our bodies far into space, cut across the floor and reach the limits of our own stamina. We will be making quicker decisions that are more attuned to the energy and atmosphere of the space. We will be able to work on alternative configurations of the body’s balance and alignment. We will gain a different understanding of continuous and fluid movement. Finally, we will become more sensitive to vibrations and resonance that our bodies share with the spaces we are in.
In this training we will borrow from Holotropic Breathwork (circular breathing), sitting and walking meditation, somatic practices, and the movement technique of BatshevaDance Company. There will not be many structured exercises to follow but rather a more improvised yet carefully guided movement practice. Going along this path will infuse our motor skills with interest and allow us to connect with the pleasure of dance. We will pass through alternative modes of awareness, visit various physical states and improve our improvisation skills by the excess of attention given to subtleties of dynamic body sensations. If there is time, we might also learn a dance phrase.
